Discover Hanok

If you're in Seattle and craving a unique dining experience, you can't miss Hanok, located at 4021 E Madison St, Seattle, WA 98112. This charming restaurant offers a delightful glimpse into Korean cuisine, with a cozy atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with the warmth of traditional decor, and the food? Absolutely exceptional.

One of the standout features of Hanok is its extensive menu, featuring authentic Korean dishes that cater to a variety of tastes. Whether you're a fan of bold, spicy flavors or prefer something milder, there’s something for everyone. The menu is diverse, offering classic options like bibimbap, bulgogi, and kimchi stew, each dish made with high-quality ingredients that bring out the rich, savory flavors of Korean cooking.

During a recent visit, I had the pleasure of trying their bibimbap, a dish that’s both satisfying and visually stunning. The bowl arrived brimming with colorful vegetables, a perfectly fried egg, and a generous serving of rice. The combination of flavors was simply incredible, with the spicy gochujang (Korean chili paste) tying everything together. It’s no wonder that Hanok is highly recommended by locals and visitors alike.

Another dish worth mentioning is their Korean BBQ. Served sizzling on a tabletop grill, it’s a fun and interactive experience that adds to the overall enjoyment of the meal. The meat is marinated perfectly, and the grill adds that extra smokiness that makes every bite irresistible. Pair it with some soju or Korean beer for the perfect dinner experience.

But the appeal of Hanok isn’t just in its delicious food; it’s also about the experience. The restaurant’s staff are friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to recommend a dish or help you navigate the menu if you’re unfamiliar with Korean cuisine. The setting itself is cozy and inviting, perfect for a night out with friends or a casual family dinner. The traditional touches in the decor, such as wooden beams and soft lighting, create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, making you want to stay and savor every bite.

The restaurant also makes it a point to use fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, which truly elevates the taste of their dishes. As a result, you can expect to enjoy not only the flavors of Korea but also the best that Seattle has to offer when it comes to local produce. It’s this attention to detail that sets Hanok apart from other Korean spots in the city.

If you’re in the area and looking for a place to grab a bite, don’t forget to check out Hanok. Whether it’s for a casual meal or a special night out, the restaurant delivers in both quality and experience. The menu offers something for everyone, from hearty meat dishes to lighter options, and the atmosphere ensures that you’ll enjoy every moment of your visit.

In terms of pricing, Hanok strikes a balance, offering reasonable prices for the quality and authenticity of the food. It’s clear that they value their customers and want to make sure everyone leaves satisfied. While you may find slightly higher prices for some of the more elaborate dishes or BBQ options, the portion sizes and quality make it worth every penny.

What makes Hanok truly special is its ability to bring people together over a shared love of food. The communal style of eating, especially with the Korean BBQ and the variety of side dishes, encourages conversation and makes the meal feel more like an event than just a meal. Whether you're dining with friends, family, or even a date, you’ll find that the food and the atmosphere help create lasting memories.

So next time you're looking for something flavorful and different, head over to Hanok on E Madison St. It's more than just a restaurant; it's a cultural experience that offers a taste of Korea right in the heart of Seattle.

  • It was honestly one of the best meals I’ve ever had. I got the bulgogi and my friend got the bibimbap and it was the best Korean food we’ve ever had. The flavors were great and the way it’s served keeps it warm throughout the meal. The service was great as well and was pretty quick. One of the best restaurant experiences I’ve had in a while and I wasn’t even that hungry when we ate there and it was still amazing

  • This is my favorite Korean restaurant. Excellent quality food. The Dolsot Bibimbap is amazing. My wife and kids love the Galbi. Everything we’ve tried has been really good. The staff is always very friendly too.

  • Hanok is such a gem! I've been eating here often since moving into the neighborhood, and their dishes are delicious. Whenever I have friends or family visit from out of town, this turns into their favorite restaurant. The owners are very kind and offer great service! It's a cozy space, so make sure to call ahead for a reservation if you plan to go during dinner. They often get booked up, and they will have to start turning away people around 7/7:30 p.m. They make their kimchis in-house, and I love it! Because they make it themselves, that also means their kimchi flavor will vary slightly depending on the stage if fermentation. Their seasoning is great though, so I've enjoyed it in all stages! I highly recommend the Dolsot Bibimbap for first-timers. (Make sure to get the Dolsot which is hot stone bowl — if you just get Bibimbap, it is traditionally a cold dish...Some people get confused then are upset it is cold, but that is what they ordered.) My go-tos are their soups and udon soups! Their broths are flavorful and perfect for the often gloomy weather. At this point, I've likely tried every dish on their menu, and I have yet to be disappointed! This is a great option for groups since their menu has a good variety of dishes/flavors, and they have vegetarian/vegan options. *****Order their cinnamon drink for after your meal, and it will really hit the spot! It's good for digestion, and a sweet way to end the meal.

  • This place was seriously amazing!! I got the bibambip in the stone bowl and it was a flavor sensation and so much fun to eat, and so affordable. The friend I was with loved her meal too. Service was amazing. Now we both wish we lived in this state so we could eat here every week.

  • Delicious, high quality ingredients, and unique flavors (can’t get over how amazing the green salad dressing is!) We came for an early dinner, so the place was quiet and the food came out incredibly fast. The service was excellent and every dish was cooked to perfection. Can’t wait to be back!

  • Great food overall! The hot stone dish was a tasty and fun experience, and the stir-fried veggie noodles were perfect. Atmosphere was okay, but the location is excellent—just a short walk to Lake Washington. Sake was just okay. Worth a visit!

  • I enjoyed the cozy, quiet and hospitable atmosphere, like dining at a good friend’s house. Street parking can be challenging during peak hour. Or parking around the neighborhood. Sizzling corn cheese and deep fried seaweed clear noodles are my favorite appetizers. After dining, take a walk to Lake Washington for breeze and sunshine.
